With twists and turns along the way, somehow we once again pulled off a summer issue of Lake Living magazine.
This one is super cool because not only are all the articles written by women, but they each feature women. And one was actually written by a high school student; while another is about an fabulous twenties-something naturalist who is also an artist. I wrote an article about the middle school class I have the pleasure of working with each week during the school year. And another about Maine women who support an incredible group of women in Zambia. There’s another about The Summer Camp, a camp for girls from Maine and beyond who are at-risk (and an organization I worked for years ago). Plus, there’s one about mushrooms, because as most of us know, mushrooms are most intriguing. The issue also includes everyone’s favorites: The Summer Bookshelf list of recommendations by the owners and staff of Bridgton Books.
I hope you’ll take some time to savor this issue. And I hope this link works as intended because we don’t have it on the Lake Living website yet and that may take a bit.

Everything is connected. My wife Diane and a friend were in Bridgton today and went into the gallery where Ian Factor is having a one man show. She picked up a copy of Lake Living, where his art is featured on the cover, and of course you are a big contributor inside. Laurie the editor is an old friend of Lisa Thurston, who you know. Then at Firefly, the owner’s partner is a good friend of Basil Dixon, who we passed going into Kezar River this morning.

Exactly Joe. Except for Ian, I know all the key players and it’s like fungal mycelium, a most incredible network in our midst. That’s how Laurie and I figure out each issue–we bounce ideas off of each other and tada . . . another magazine is born. Prior to the pandemic, Lake Living was a quarterly, but finding advertisers have proven to be a real issue these last three years so now we produce a summer and a winter issue. Wish it could be more. Thanks for making all the connections in your personal life. That’s awesome. Ours is a village.

I’ve been gobsmacked by the enthusiasm and expertise of Leigh and Laurie in featuring my favorite nonprofit, WISE Zambia, in the summer issue. One never knows what will happen when among friends at a party. Bingo! Meet Laurie and the story takes root and grows into something really special with Leigh’s talent for putting together a coherent and touching narrative. Huge thanks to both women for making this happen. You can probably tell that I’m always ready to talk about my passion so to anyone out there, please email if you want to chat.. jojobollinger371@gmail.com
